Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with Visudyne involves the injection of a light-sensitive drug into the bloodstream, followed by a brief laser treatment. The low energy laser activates the drug, which helps shrink blood vessels, tumours, and leakage. Usually, the whole procedure takes less than 30 minutes. When you go home afterwards, and for the next 5 days, you do have to be careful not to expose yourself to direct sunlight or other bright lights as the drug is cleared from your system.

This procedure is performed at the medical retina service at the Rudolf Foundation Clinic by your rcv ophthalmologist.
